The City of Jackson is looking for highly motivated EMS clinicians who want to advance the delivery of EMS in rural areas. We are currently accepting applications for the next 90 days. Applicants will then be contacted for an interview. Desired applicants will be placed on a list for anticipated openings in 2025.

Full-time EMTs will work a 48 hours on, 96 hours off rotation. During these shifts, EMTs will respond to 911 calls and hospital transfers primarily on an ALS ambulance but also on a BLS ambulance. EMTs are also expected to participate in our Community EMS program once eligible. While not on a call, EMTs will be posted at our station where they have access to a full kitchen, individual bunk rooms, a workout room, training room, and lounge.

Compensation

The Jackson Ambulance Service is a City owned, City run EMS service. As such, employees of the service are employees of the City. Full-time employees are offered a generous range of benefi ts including but not limited to: tuition reimbursement, City funded HSA, health/vision/dental insurance, PERA pension plan, and more. Tuition reimbursement can be used by EMTs pursuing a paramedic education.
Employees are hired onto a grade and step compensation schedule. The salary range for this position is $20/hr (~$66,560/year*) to $25/hr (~$83,200/year*). Employees will receive an annual performance review. Satisfactory reviews will result in the employee moving up a step in the compensation schedule. Employees will also receive a Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) each year.
*Annual compensations are estimated based on the 48/96 average weekly hours worked of 56

Responsibilities 

Provide on-site medical care to large crowds such as sporting events, and local venue stand-by coverage. (Special Events)
Provide on-scene and mobile care to patients during a 911 response.
Provide care to patients during inter-hospital transfers.
Provide appropriate patient care as stipulated in their training as a EMT.
Provide safe transportation, to include accurately discerning street names through map reading, the ability to correctly distinguish house numbers, and addresses of business locations, in the most expedient manner, are essential.
Appropriately assess a patient and accurately convey the condition to other medical professionals.
Provide an accurate written report describing a patient's condition, medical history, and the treatment provided.
Provide appropriate documentation for billing information.
Maintain the vehicle in sanitary condition, in addition to monitoring all fl uid levels and gauges

Qualifications

Current NREMT-B (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians- Basic)
Current Minnesota EMT license
Current AHA CPR provider card
Current NAEMT PHTLS provider card
Ability to provide - medical care, at the EMT level, while safely transporting patients.
Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Pass a pre-employment interview including a physical and lifting examination, drug screen, and background check.
Attend company provided training and driving course.
