About the position 

Provide comprehensive care and treatment determination, including initial response, follow up and referral services, to patients in the community. Responsible for a high level of decision making, authority, and supervision as it pertains to the care, treatment, and transport of patients.

Note: This is a new, full-time, and benefit earning pilot opportunity with the city. The pilot will run for up to two years. Upon successful completion in the role and continuation of the program - the incumbent would be invited to apply for the position. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Perform duties commensurate during emergency response operations and may be assigned to an Incident Command System (ICS) position consistent with demonstrated/certified abilities.
  • Assists with the continued improvement of the Alternative Response Medic (ARM) program.
  • Performs daily operations of ARM program.
  • Responds to emergency medical incidents, determines the nature and extent of the emergency, and coordinates with other emergency responders on treatment and transport.
  • Responds to non-emergency medical incidents, determines the nature and extent of the situation and makes a treatment and/or transport decision based on assessment findings, protocols, and medical direction.
  • Gathers data and prepares incident reports, completes other written reports and records.
  • Maintains data on high frequency users to assist with care, treatment, transport, and education determination.
  • Coordinates with department leadership, Public Health Officials, Community Health Practitioners, and other community advocates and stakeholders on community education, patient referrals, etc. as necessary.
  • Engages in community outreach efforts to identify at-risk populations and addresses public health concerns by connecting patients with appropriate medical, behavioral health, or social support services.
  • Collaborates with other departments, agencies, and organizations to deliver community health-type services.
  • As a member of a paramedic assist unit (PAU), responds to emergency medical incidents and may perform advanced life support (ALS) treatments, interventions, and procedures as allowed by current protocols signed by the Medical Director.
  • May be responsible for the clinical direction of St. Louis Park Fire Department personnel while on the scene of a medical call.
  • Maintain licensing and certification requirements for this position along with continuing education as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a paramedic – recent and relevant experience in a public or private EMS organization.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited two-year college or technical school in EMS or a related field.
  • Current Minnesota paramedic certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort with supporting the city’s strategic
  • objectives for racial equity.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a paramedic or relevant experience.
  • Current community paramedic certification.
  • Experience in:
    1. Community paramedicine, mobile integrated healthcare, or a related field.
    2. Primary care, home health, or chronic disease management.
    3. Social work, mental health, or behavioral health.
